🇺🇸 A federal judge blocked the Pentagon's blacklisting of Anthropic, calling it illegal and baseless Judge Rita Lin ruled in a 59-page order that Hegseth overstepped in labeling the company a national security supply-chain risk, the first time any American firm has been publicly designated under that procurement statute. It followed Anthropic's refusal to let its Claude models be used for U.S. surveillance or autonomous weapons. Lin wrote that the empty invocation of national security is not a blank check to punish and retaliate against government critics. The Justice Department argued the label came from a refusal to accept contract terms rather than the company's views. The Pentagon's operational worry is real, since vendor restrictions could constrain systems mid-mission, and no court has yet answered whether a private supplier gets to draw those lines.
