🇮🇷 Hauling oil through the Strait of Hormuz has become one of the most lucrative gigs on the planet, and supertankers are racing in to cash in. Over 40% of the world's roughly 850 supertankers are now in the Persian Gulf or a couple of days away from it, chasing fees more than 6 times higher than before the war, even with ships still getting attacked. Rates on the Gulf to East Asia run hit a record of nearly $1.4 million a day this week, up almost 540% since the war began. Oil itself is up about 40% over the same period. With so many ships stuck in the Gulf, everyone else is paying the price. One supertanker was offered this week to haul oil from the U.S. to Japan for a potential record $82 million, over $40 a barrel just for the trip. Danger pays, and right now it pays better than ever.
