New Yorkers can now register early to become Emergency Snow Shovelers and help keep bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants, and other critical public spaces clear during major winter weather.
This year, Snow Shovelers will earn $30 per hour, increasing to $45 per hour after the first 40 hours worked in a week. New Yorkers who register before Nov. 30 will also be eligible for a paid orientation in December and expedited payment processing.
The first @NYCsanitation registration event will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 AM to 5 PM at Taft High School, 240 East 172nd Street in the Bronx.

Tomorrow, September 11, join us at 2 pm, following the Ground Zero ceremony, for our annual Reading of the Names, remembering those members of the Strongest who have died of 9/11-related illnesses following service to the City.
All are welcome to attend the ceremony outdoors at 353 Spring Street in Manhattan, where we will also unveil a plaque dedicated to their memory.
Additionally, our Spring Street Salt Shed is illuminated with a visual tribute to all Department employees who worked at Ground Zero and Fresh Kills in the weeks and months following the attacks. The illuminated tribute, best viewed at night, is currently running and will continue until daybreak on Monday, Sept. 14.
