🏝️ **Snapdragon Summit Day 1: Snapdragon at the Heart of the Agentic Smartphone** Day 1 of #SnapdragonSummit# here in Maui was all about Qualcomm’s vision for the **agentic AI smartphone**—and the new silicon it believes will help make that vision possible. My biggest takeaway: Qualcomm has assembled many of the pieces needed for agentic AI across CPU, GPU, NPU and connectivity, but the ultimate experience will depend heavily on how OEMs actually put those capabilities to work. A few highlights from the day: 📱 **A new dual-flagship strategy** Qualcomm introduced the 2nm **Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6** and **Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6**, both featuring its latest Oryon CPU running at up to an industry-leading 5 GHz. 🧠 **AI keeps pushing CPU performance higher** Qualcomm says the platforms can run **30B-parameter models locally**, showing just how quickly smartphone-class AI compute continues to scale. 🎮 **Neural graphics take a major step forward** The Elite Extreme adds matrix cores to the GPU and introduces Qualcomm’s **Neural Fusion** approach to neural rendering. 📸 **Big imaging improvements** The Extreme platform adds support for **8K60 and 4K240 video recording**, continuing the convergence between flagship smartphones and increasingly sophisticated imaging devices. ⚡ **And the performance is real** I’ve already benchmarked the Elite Extreme, and it is considerably faster than the previous generation while remaining highly competitive with Apple’s A20 Pro. Qualcomm also highlighted its increasingly broad ecosystem, with HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo and Xiaomi among the OEM partners. Xiaomi says its upcoming **Xiaomi 18 series** will be first out of the gate with the new platforms. Ultimately, Qualcomm continues to push the boundaries of what its mobile platforms can do. But the most interesting question now shifts from **“What can the chip do?”** to **“What experiences will OEMs actually build with it?”** That will determine whether the “agentic smartphone” becomes a meaningful change in how we use our devices—or simply another layer of AI branding.
