Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-AimĂŠ recently talked on the Wii Uâs challenges during a fireside chat at New York University.
He described it as Nintendoâs second-worst performing platform, after the Virtual Boy.
âWe did well in our first year, but as players looked to Sony and Microsoftâs next generation, sales stalled,â Reggie said.
âThe new products we planned didnât arrive on schedule. The team worked on a new Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Splatoon which became a fantastic franchise but the games didnât launch fast enough.â
Reggie admitted that even before launch, while playing Nintendo Land, he had âa little itch in the back of [his] neck,â sensing it lacked Wii Sportsâ immediate broad appeal.
