The creator is a professional stonemason and used Statuario marble from the Carrara region of Italy, along with Sahara Noir and Roman travertine. The marble panels are only about 5–6 mm thick and are attached to 3D-printed bases to keep them lighter and help protect the stone. He’s already been using one on his Steam Machine and plans to test its temperatures against the standard faceplate. He’s also considering making a small batch of these real marble faceplates for other Steam Machine owners.
