As China's authoritarian "ethnic unity law" takes effect, my heart is heavy. #Uyghur# script is removed from even the most iconic grand bazaar. If 10% of Uyghurs like my brother are in prison camps, the rest are strangers in their own land. The next generation will grow up without identity.
For those of us forced into exile, displacement feels more permanent. Any trace of homeland is erased year after year, along with ongoing atrocities.
