"Assurances from the commission that the checks would be “frictionless” have been wide of the mark with many people wishing to place a bet being asked to provide details such as three months’ worth of payslips, bank statements and tax returns.
A large number are unprepared to hand over such sensitive information to a third party, resulting in a steep rise in black-market betting, primarily with bookmakers based abroad."
