Matt Johnson thinking the first half of Dream Scenario is a masterpiece and the second half is awful is exactly right, it’s hard to think of a movie this decade that fumbled its premise as hard as that one did

It’s devastating to me that this is considered one of Matt Johnson’s weaker films, even from Matt Johnson himself, because it’s so obvious a perfect movie. One of the defining films of the 2010’s if you ask me.

Matt Johnson fans especially should especially check out Joel Potrykus’s work, since all his stuff is similarly about media obsession, people who never figured out how to grow up, and doomed yaoi (see Vulcanizadora). One of the best to ever do it.

Joel Potrykus is one of the most underrated working directors today, it’s beautiful seeing someone who’s as influenced by Kelly Reichardt and Michael Haneke as they are by Jackass and Trash Humpers. He makes slow cinema for idiots, degenerates, and metal heads. He’s a genius.

Everything he describes as bad here is actually just a great case for why The Dark Knight Rises is one of the best superhero movies out there, this is all awesome
