When an openly pro-Hamas Palestinian journalist in Ireland publicly threatened me with violence, I received no goodwill or support from the thousands of Irish people defending the Irish Nazi in France. They largely took the journalist’s side. When that same journalist harassed and incited against the only kosher restaurant in the country, there was no outrage on Irish Twitter about the fact that a non-Irish extremist threatened an Irish business and Irish livelihoods. When that same journalist grotesquely insulted and defamed one of our own Holocaust survivors, a man who spent decades educating young Irish children about the Shoah, mere days after his death, there was no anger on Irish Twitter that someone who had contributed so much to Irish society was being so disrespected. The fact that Irish Twitter has largely come out to excuse, diminish, and defend the man in France is remarkably telling. This man threatened on camera to ‘put a f*cking bullet’ in the head of a Jewish woman. Also on camera he called two Jews ‘f*cking pigs’ repeatedly. He said ‘come back Hitler’ on camera after allegedly saying he was ‘sorry Hitler didn’t finish the job’ before he was filmed. …And yet he is given all the benefit of the doubt in the world. Every conceivable grace is afforded to him. He was the offended party, he was provoked, we must protect this Irishman. Where was the benefit of the doubt for those of us whose only crime was speaking openly about our observations of prejudice in Irish society and bias in the Irish establishment? There was none. From the beginning we were smeared as having an agenda, of being paid, even of being foreign intelligence. Where was the urge to protect Irish people when it came to an Irish woman being openly threatened by a non-Irish extremists who subsequently denigrated an Irish Holocaust survivor? It did not exist, I was the one attacked for merely speaking openly about the fact that he had threatened me. This double standard in who is afforded grace of benefit of the doubt and compatriot solidarity, is far more damning on Irish society than a lone Irishman going on a Nazi tirade. A man who speaks for no one but himself and brings shame to our country. A shame that none of us who have been combatting antisemitism in Ireland would ever dream of doing, despite all the vitriol and abuse we have faced from our own Irish brethren.

#Tradwives# is a class issue: My great-grandmother died when my granny was 9. My granny was put in a Magdalene Laundry at 15. My mother left Ireland at 17 because De Valera's poncing around islolationism meant there were no jobs. That's just my maternal line. I had to work, even after I had children, just like my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother before me. Because I'm working class. I was lucky, I had my mum and so did my kids. Every single woman in my family worked. They had to. This whole #Tradwives# debate means nothing to me, and every other working class woman, because I did not have the choice to stay at home anyway. If women do have the choice, and want to stay at home with their children, the Government should move mountains to accommodate them. Children are our future. Mothers make that happen, with the backup of fathers. Other than that this is all a very middle class conversation.

This video makes me incredibly angry. Working in housing for about a year completely changed my perspective on this country and the housing crisis. There are loads of different aspects to it. The government being ran by incompetent grifters, vulture funds, landlords, planning. You’re allowed to talk about all of those. But nobody wants to address the immigrant elephant in the room. Over two years ago I worked as a doorman in a brand new apartment building. Hundreds of lovely modern apartments. In the middle of a housing crisis you’d assume I’d have thought, brilliant, hundreds of homes for people. No, I wasn’t impressed. Up until then immigration wasn’t an issue I really cared about. My attitude towards it was basically that the world is free and people should be able to go wherever they want. About a month working there changed my perspective completely. I could count on one hand the number of Irish residents I’d actually dealt with. Obviously I didn’t have everyone’s nationality in front of me, but I estimate from working there was about 95% of the residents I encountered were non-Irish. And here’s the part that really pissed me off. The housing company was offering residents hundreds upon hundreds of euro in One4all vouchers if they successfully referred someone else to rent an apartment. Through the course of the job I’d see emails about residents referring friends from the other side of the world, including people who weren’t even living in Ireland yet. Most of them through ridiculous student visas. I remember sitting there thinking, are we actually taking the piss? We apparently don’t have enough housing for the people already here. Young Irish people are living with their parents well into adulthood. We have mothers raising children in hostels and emergency accommodation. And in the middle of all that, parts of the rental market were literally handing out hundreds of euro to encourage existing tenants to bring in even more renters. Now, that’s not the fault of some fella who gets offered an apartment and takes it. I’d take it too. The problem is the absolute gobshites running a country where housing policy and immigration policy apparently never have to meet each other. You cannot have a severe housing shortage, rapidly increase the number of people who need somewhere to live, fail miserably to build enough homes, and then act scandalised when someone suggests those things might be connected. So when I see videos of young Irish people like this, or mothers documenting what it’s like trying to raise their children in hostels, it genuinely makes my blood boil. It also reminds me how lucky I am. I have family who’ll put a roof over my head. Plenty of people don’t. Immigration didn’t cause Ireland’s housing crisis. Anyone saying it did would be talking shite. Put it has been the throwing petrol over a fire. And afaik, major apartment builds are required to provide a certain amount of social housing now. In this case one building was social housing. I walk past it every day, I’ve never seen an Irish person walk in or out the building. It’s not hateful to point out the obvious about immigration and housing in Ireland. The more this conversation is avoided, the more obvious it’ll get. My only worry is what language we’ll eventually have it in.

This is disgraceful policing that comes as no surprise to anybody paying attention. Ask the Taoiseach a tough question, have a heavy (who looks like he escaped from a Dominos test lab) grab your wrist and threaten you for “breaching the peace.”

This is disgraceful. Christopher Duffy represents countless people across Ireland. Detaining him for trying to ask the Taoiseach a question says everything about the state of Irish politics. Our politicians want the public’s vote, just not our questions.

This is exactly why more and more gays want nothing to do with the alphabet soup that now speaks over us. An Islamist drives a van into a Pride parade, killing someone and injuring dozens, and at the vigil an activist is more distressed that the attacker was not a white Christian than by the fact gays were deliberately targeted. The narrative must be protected at all costs. German authorities are treating the attack as Islamist terrorism. It is the same cognitive dissonance every single time. Gays are attacked by Islamists, but queer activists panic about “Islamophobia.” Gay kids who do not conform to stereotypes are encouraged to question whether they were born in the wrong body, but the same activists insist they are fighting conversion therapy. Women object to males entering their sports, prisons and changing rooms, and somehow the invader becomes the victim. Gays who no longer recognise a movement supposedly representing us, are told to shut up by these same people who’d rather protect those who want to kill us than the victims of extremism. They do not care about gays as people. They care about us as characters in a political story. The second reality interferes with that story, they play the victim. You cannot build a movement around denying what we can all see right in front of us.
