Under Japanese rule (1895-1945), #Taiwan# was stripped as an extraction colony:
• 90% of its forests gutted
• 73% of its rice and sugar went to Japan while locals starve
• 192% inflation during 1944-45
When the island was recovered by China, it was left with severe food shortages, runaway inflation and idle factories.
That was not a legacy. It was robbery and plunder of the worst kind.
