Remembering the Fifth Little Girl
Sarah Collins Rudolph, a 12-year-old little girl, was the sole survivor of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing, which rocked Birmingham and the nation on September 15, 1963.
The explosion, executed by four Ku Klux Klan members, killed Sarah's 14-year-old sister, Addie Mae Collins, as well as 11-year-old Denise McNair, 14-year-old Carole Robertson, and 14-year-old Cynthia Wesley.
Sarah was hospitalized for months and missed her sister's funeral. She was left with major shrapnel wounds and lost the vision in her right eye.

Today in History: The Montgomery Bus Boycott
On December 5, 1955, the Montgomery Bus Boycott began, uniting a community to demand justice. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led with a clear vision, stating, “The bus boycott is not aimed at putting the bus company out of business but at putting justice in business.”
Today, we honor this legacy by continuing to stand for justice through nonviolence.
