Are female CEOs more aggressive?
Let's have that conversation.
I have seen quite a few people complain about working with female CEOs and describe them as aggressive.
I have worked with female CEOs too, and I have noticed something interesting.
Some have been incredibly supportive.
While with others, you could submit the work, fix it, improve it, submit it again and still get more corrections done.
At first, it's tempting to conclude;
Female CEOs are just aggressive.
But that's where psychology gets interesting.
Is the person actually being aggressive, or are we sometimes interpreting assertiveness differently because she's a woman?
Psychology tells us that we often have different expectations for how men and women should behave.
A highly demanding man might be described as firm.
A highly demanding woman might be described as difficult.
But there is another side to this.
We shouldn't use gender expectations as an excuse for genuinely poor leadership either.
If a CEO constantly humiliates people, refuses feedback, finds fault with everything, or creates fear in the workplace, that's a leadership problem, regardless of whether the CEO is a man or a woman.
Sometimes too, this can be a behavioural thing.
a person may be going through a difficult period in their personal life, dealing with stress, pressure, or other challenges and that can affect how they behave at work.
That can happen to any gender which we all know.
But here is what matters,
How you manage what you are going through is part of what makes you a leader.
Being under pressure may explain someone's behaviour.
It doesn't automatically excuse it.
So I am curious,
Have you worked with both male and female CEOs?
What differences have you noticed????
