The United States condemns in the strongest terms this drone strike, reportedly by the RSF, that took the lives of so many at the displacement site in Wad Al Mahi, Blue Nile State. Civilians in Sudan continue to be the greatest victims of this conflict, even after hostilities forced them from their homes to makeshift camps and repurposed buildings. Deadly drone strikes imperil civilians and threaten aid workers. Sudanese civilians need a humanitarian truce; the belligerents must cease attacks on civilians and civilian objects. The United States stands ready to work with any partners for peace in Sudan, and in the meantime will raise the cost of conflict, including at the UN Security Council, which must act to curtail the flow of external military support, including deadly drones, into Sudan.

The United States welcomes the European Parliament’s adoption of a resolution calling for stronger measures to counter Islamist terrorism and the influence of Muslim Brotherhood networks. The United States is taking decisive action against Muslim Brotherhood chapters involved in terrorism and destabilizing activities. We encourage continued cooperation with our European partners to combat terrorism, disrupt violent extremist networks, and protect our shared security.

The United States congratulates Mr. Salihin Abdalnabi on becoming Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, as well as Mr. Tareq Ashtar and Mr. Misbah Douma on their selections as First and Second Deputy Speaker respectively.  We look forward to working with the House of Representatives, its new leadership, and all Libyan stakeholders and institutions to advance a political process that unifies Libya's political, economic, and military institutions and clears the way for successful national elections.  Libya's leaders and people have an opportunity to overcome their divisions, achieve national unity, and forge a lasting peace.  Working closely with the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and our international partners, the United States will remain at the forefront of diplomatic efforts to support Libyan-led unification.

Yesterday's signing of the U.S.-Libya Telecommunications and 5G Framework by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy and the Libyan General Authority on Communications and Informatics marks an important step forward in U.S.-Libya cooperation—advancing secure ICT systems, expanding economic opportunities for both countries, and delivering the telecommunications services the Libyan people demand. The United States supports the development of secure, high-quality ICT infrastructure in all regions of Libya.

The United States condemns the recent aerial attack on a World Food Program convoy in South Kordofan transporting urgently needed food that killed one aid worker. This deadly incident is the 9th aerial attack on WFP operations in Sudan this year alone. It is part of a clear and dangerous pattern. Attacks on humanitarian actors must stop. Civilians at risk of famine need unhindered humanitarian access NOW.

It was my pleasure yesterday to attend the luncheon hosted by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in New Alamein City, Egypt, alongside General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, on the sidelines of the African Union Coordination Meeting. In this context, we reaffirm the steadfast position of the United States in support of the Sudanese people and its support for preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. We also reaffirm the United States’ continued efforts, alongside our Egyptian partners and our other regional and international partners and allies, to advance a political solution to the crisis, contribute to ending the war, and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people, as called for by President Trump. These efforts aim to enable Sudan to restore its security and stability, embark on reconstruction and development, and, through an inclusive Sudanese-owned and Sudanese-led national dialogue, transition toward a civilian-led government. The United States stands ready to support all efforts leading to a comprehensive dialogue among the Sudanese political forces, leading to a preliminary road map of the future of the Sudan. We encourage the Sudanese to be inclusive and to engage actively with regional and international stakeholders to coordinate views, harmonizing efforts toward a conducive and peaceful path to ending the war in Sudan.

We strongly urge Ethiopia and Eritrea to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their neighbors, exercise maximum restraint and return to dialogue and cooperation as agreed in their 2018 peace framework.

A productive conversation with Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, @S_Enikanolaiye, at the Africa Business Forum in Cairo where we discussed our commitment to work together to protect vulnerable Christians and address regional security threats. Also, pleased to see Nigeria signed a Critical Minerals Framework - a noteworthy first step to opening Nigeria’s critical minerals sector to U.S. investment.

Productive conversation with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo about his work with the AU to promote peace and stability on the entire continent of Africa. This region cannot sustain another military conflict and humanitarian crisis. Peace is the only path toward sustainable security, economic growth, and prosperity.

Pleased to meet with @Afreximbank President @GeorgeElombi to discuss how the United States remains focused on driving private investment and mutually beneficial growth in Africa. We continue to consider African nations as capable commercial partners, not aid recipients, and our commercial diplomacy will focus on diplomatic engagement in the pursuit of commercial deals, infrastructure development, and real economic outcomes.

Productive ministerial dialogue with the Foreign Ministers of Angola, Burundi, Egypt, and Nigeria on the role of economic diplomacy in strengthening U.S.-Africa partnerships. We discussed opportunities to expand trade and investment, deepen strategic economic relationships, open markets, and support sustainable economic growth across the continent. Stronger commercial ties can help advance shared prosperity and reinforce enduring partnerships between the United States and African nations.

Good to meet AU Chairman and Burundi’s President Évariste Ndayishimiye (@GeneralNeva) to discuss the AU's critical role in creating a prosperous and peaceful Africa. We also discussed cooperation between the United States and Burundi and ways to strengthen our bilateral partnership.

Good meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty on the margins of the Africa Business Forum in Cairo. We discussed our longstanding U.S.-Egypt strategic partnership and shared regional priorities, including advancing unification in Libya, resolving the conflict in Sudan, and promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

Productive conversation with UNHCR Commissioner Barham Salih (@BarhamSalih) about refugee issues in Sudan, the DRC, and Western Sahara. In Sudan, we agreed on the vital need for an immediate humanitarian truce that allows unhindered humanitarian access. On DRC, we discussed the importance of sustaining the momentum toward lasting peace under the Washington Accords and Doha Framework. On Western Sahara, we discussed the path toward a durable resolution consistent with UNSCR 2797 and the importance of addressing the long-term needs of Sahrawi refugees in the Tindouf camps, alongside efforts to advance regional stability and prosperity.

Welcomed the meeting and in-depth conversation about Sudan with UN Personal Envoy for Sudan Pekka Haavisto. We discussed his tireless work to advance peace in Sudan and U.S. support for his efforts through the Quintet. We also shared ideas on ways we can work together and with the Quintet to advance and facilitate an inclusive Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned national civilian dialogue, a critical step towards peace in Sudan. We appreciate also his great cooperation on our efforts to push for a humanitarian truce push for a comprehensive resolution of Sudan's conflict.

Good discussion with DRC Prime Minister @SuminwaJudith about the importance of sustaining the momentum toward lasting peace under the Washington Accords and Doha Framework.  The United States remains proud to lead the world’s Ebola response with $887 million in direct assistance to our partners fighting this vicious disease outbreak in the DRC.

Productive conversation with @UNReliefChief Tom Fletcher as we continue working across many conflicts that continue to drive humanitarian crises. On Sudan, we discussed practical steps that we can take together to push for expanded humanitarian access and increased UN presence in Darfur and the Kordofans, as well as how we can work to build out mechanisms and processes for supporting humanitarian access and delivery, monitoring the humanitarian situation, promoting civilian protection, and facilitating the safe and voluntary returns of displaced persons. On DRC, we discussed the continued humanitarian access challenges arising from the ongoing conflict and the overlapping concerns arising from the Ebola outbreak. In the face of urgent humanitarian needs, assistance cannot wait, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with OCHA and other partners on these efforts.

Pleasure meeting with H.E. @Dr_Al_Khulaifi on the sidelines of #UNGA81# to discuss our shared concerns about regional security, underscoring the importance of continued dialogue, coordination and cooperation. Addressing common challenges together can help promote stability, strengthen partnerships, and support a more secure and resilient region.
