I gotta be honest: I have 4 kids and decided to NOT actually take this traditional advice literally. I followed the advice of not returning to work or doing very strenuous activity for 6-8 weeks but I didn't literally stay in the house for the whole time. I was outside walking everywhere after like....2 weeks.

I feel like the old black tradition of new mothers staying in the house for 6-8 weeks after giving birth contributes to post partum depression. Being inside 4 walls all day everyday with a crying baby would drive me crazy.
