The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow was blown up in 1931 as part of a Soviet crackdown on religious expression, a warning to those who dared worship a power higher than communism.
A giant statue of Lenin was supposed to take its place, but the project was never completed. A fitting reminder of the failures of socialism.
