I bet Ma -- who oversaw the mass interment camps, torture and surveillance in Xinjiang from 2021 to 2025 -- now desperately wants human rights and rule of law for himself.
This is incredibly sad. No one has been held accountable for the ordeal Lam Wing-kee has endured. But someday they will be, and someday justice will come for the CCP machinery of repression.
Relieved to hear that Dong Guangping is safely in Canada. Everyone who writes some version of “I went to China for two weeks and was amazed” should read Dong’s story to understand just how sickening the CCP’s punishment of its critics can be.
At @DW_GMF, I said Americans are unhappy with social media companies, and AI companies are already unpopular. Tech executives should take that seriously and cooperate on smart regulation rather than resist it, lest they provoke a major backlash.
Hats off to @accessnow for its transparency. Let this sink in: the CCP cancelled a 2000-person human rights conference in another country one week before it was supposed to start. We, the global human rights community, will make sure both governments pay a cost for censorship.
