This is a shame. As capital has concentrated at the top and companies have stayed private longer, venture has become perhaps a more important driver of where capital goes than the public markets. As much as people make fun of VCs, they do have an important role to play in the current system. Every dollar that goes into a company because it’s got a good chance of being marked up by a greater fool is one that doesn’t go into a company that could genuinely improve the future.
