But it says something about us when we ask the National Guard to enforce rules like “don’t touch the water” in a reflecting pool at a national park.

Russians recruit people on Telegram. They pay them €1,000–2,000 for reconnaissance, then €20,000 to carry out actual attack.
These are one-time agents, disposable people who often don’t even know what they’re attacking.

As a Ukrainian who was actually there, I can tell you that no one funded us. Brave, unarmed people died marching against special forces units who were armed to the teeth. They died for freedom, not for a pathetic couple of bucks.
