🚨Hate crime? A white daughter got to her dad’s Conway house and found out he was already de*d while a black caregiver was living there on a five-dollar deed! Nora Rowland drove from Maryland to Conway, South Carolina, in June 2024 because she could not reach her father, Robert Rowland, 75. He had Parkinson’s and a brain injury. She used to FaceTime him every week. “My dad was always a daddy’s girl type thing, so it was always me and him throughout my whole life.” Nurse Sarah Smalls had come in through Griswold Home Care in March 2024. By the end of that month he was in a senior facility. In April, papers named Smalls as power of attorney. On April 17 a quitclaim deed moved the house at 1908 into Smalls’ name for five dollars. Horry County recorded it. Bank records Nora later pulled show money leaving Robert’s account for Smalls, including after he d*ed. Nora found a new door and a Ring camera she had never seen. Smalls answered. “This isn’t the way that I wanted to tell you, but your dad d*ed, and there’s a bunch of other stuff I have to tell you too. Just wait there.” Inside, his things were gone. The walls were painted orange. Photos of people Nora did not know were on the wall, the same black family now living in the house. “Who are these children?” Smalls called Conway police and showed them the deed. Officers cuffed Nora and her partner. “I just kept saying, ‘I don’t know what’s going on; this is my dad’s house. My dad is de*d.’” Those charges were dismissed. WMBF says Conway police are looking at the file. The official cause of Robert’s de*th was not in the reports reviewed.
