EXPOSE HIM: Zohran Mamdani used a 9/11 subway story about his “aunt,” then admitted she was his father’s cousin who had already passed away. On Oct. 24, 2025, outside the Islamic Cultural Center of the Bronx, the DSA socialist choked up and said, “I want to speak to the memory of my aunt, who stopped taking the subway after September 11th because she did not feel safe in her hijab.” He wrapped it in a sermon about Islamophobia in New York. Nearly 3,000 people were k*lled that morning. JD Vance put the speech in plain English: “According to Zohran the real victim of 9/11 was his auntie who got some (allegedly) bad looks.” Internet users then posted Masuma Mamdani, his father’s sister. Her LinkedIn put her at AMREF Health Africa in Tanzania from January 2000 through December 2003. Public photos do not show her in a hijab. Three days later Mamdani told reporters he had meant someone else. “I was speaking about Zehra fuhi, my father’s cousin, who passed away a few years ago.” Fuhi means paternal aunt in Urdu and Hindi. He added, “It’s not a lie. My father’s cousin is my aunt. That is how I referred to her all my life.” The campaign would not give Zehra’s full name. Independent records placing her on a New York subway in a hijab after 9/11 were not produced in the coverage reviewed. He is now mayor of the city that buried those 3,000.
