THIS is public education: Louisiana charged its 2024 New Teacher of the Year in a Donaldsonville double sh*oting. ⠀ Kyle Delaney is 25. Ascension Parish booked him Sept. 15 on two counts of attempted second-degree m*rder. ⠀ He also faces illegal use of weapons and criminal damage to property. Deputies say he pulled up on St. Vincent Street about 5:30 p.m., got out, and fired toward two men, then drove off. ⠀ One victim had a single g*nshot wound. The other had multiple wounds. Both went to a hospital in stable condition. Their names and any tie to Delaney have not been released. ⠀ Detectives found him hours later at a house in Gonzales, about 17 miles north of the scene. He is in Ascension Parish Jail awaiting arraignment. ⠀ Delaney taught seventh-grade social studies at Gonzales Middle School. The district website listed him as New Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025. ⠀ Ascension Public Schools said Sept. 15 was his last day on the payroll.
