Hi founders and hiring managers, please stop asking for unpaid work trials. Do this instead:
Few months back I interviewed with @brexHQ for a motion designer role. Didn't end up getting it (it was on-site in SF, visa stuff made it a bit tricky). But their process really stuck with me.
Instead of giving an unpaid take-home assignment, they hire you for a day and you actually work with the team, remote or on-site.
-You actually get to see how they work, their process,
how they give feedback, the pace, not just stare at a brief
-They get to see how you think and collaborate, not just judge one deliverable
-Nobody's working for free, nobody's guessing
An take-home assignment only tells a company what you can make. A trial day tells both sides if you can actually work together.
One of these is worth so much more.
More companies should be doing this.
