The "it’s not like the source material" defense for this drama is dumb. You can’t separate an adaptation from its racist source material when the creator is profiting off the adaptation, and the incel rhetoric from the webtoon is present in the drama, so it’s still problematic.
For those foreigners who don’t understand why this drama is controversial, here’s some context.
The webtoon it is based on has been boycotted by many Korean women for years due to its misogynistic and racist content. (to continue)
But brain dead Kdrama fans are ignoring the valid criticism of this adaptation and campaigning for it to get a season two. They want to fill the pockets of a racist, misogynistic man so badddd
So many good webtoons are out there, but South Korea would rather adapt a racist and sexist manhwa that stereotypes a Black character by depicting him as a monkey and has a white character call him the N-word
So she doesn’t believe in love, but he does, and she’s engaged to a whole other man while thinking about "what ifs" with the duke, and he seems like he’s into her too… hmm, this manhwa has all the ingredients for a messy cheating plotline and I hope the author goes there.
Holding eye contact with your fiancée while making out with another woman… watch him regret this and start "falling" for her once she’s with another man 💀
