GODFATHER OF AI ADMITS HE WAS WRONG ABOUT RADIOLOGISTS geoffrey hinton predicted in 2016 that within about 5 years radiologists wouldnt be reading scans anymore 10 years later he gives two reasons he got it wrong first, making scans cheaper and faster didnt mean hospitals suddenly needed fewer radiologists. it meant they could just do more scans and second, he admits he didnt really understand the job itself his picture of a radiologist came mostly from one former student who spent his time reading scans and barely talking to people the AI part actually went pretty close to plan. machines got really good at reading scans but making one part of a job cheaper doesnt automatically make the whole job disappear AI can shrink a task without shrinking the job

OPENAI COFOUNDER SAYS EMOTIONS MAY BE WHY WE CAN MAKE DECISIONS ilya brings up a guy who lost emotional processing after brain damage. he could still talk normally and solve problems, but somehow became terrible at making basic decisions "It would take him hours to decide on which socks to wear." we spend so much time treating emotions like the annoying part of thinking. calm down, remove the feelings, be logical then you remove them completely and even choosing socks becomes a serious problem kinda changes how i look at AI advice too. it can give you 20 perfectly reasonable answers in seconds, but somebody still has to care which outcome actually matters you can understand every option and still not know which one matters to you

WORLD'S TOP MATHEMATICIAN SAYS AI MAY BE MAKING US TOO EFFICIENT terence tao talks about how he used to go to the library for one paper and randomly find another one sitting next to it now u type exactly what u need into search or ai and get it in seconds his take: "you actually do need a certain level of distraction in your life." and i think this goes way beyond math we keep treating everything between the question and the answer like wasted time, but sometimes thats literally where the learning happened u looked for one thing, read something u didnt need, got confused, went somewhere else and came back knowing more than u originally asked for ai removing all that friction is insanely useful, i use it every day. i just dont think every second we remove from the process was useless sometimes getting the answer slower was part of what made the answer yours
