A University of Kansas Medical Center fellowship trained doctors in gender-transition surgeries while encouraging them to join WPATH, a global trans-health organization that has condemned executive action protecting minors from these procedures.
"Residency and fellowship programs are expected to provide rigorous, professional training environments free from ideological pressure, safeguarding objective academic standards that support safe, high‑quality medical practice,” Kurt Miceli said.
“Ideological agendas have no place in training the next generation of physicians, and formally aligning trainees with a contested advocacy organization risks undermining that expectation.”

Is the past decade's spike in trans-identifying youth an authentic response to long suppressed identities or social contagion? 👧
That's the question evolutionary biologist Dr. Colin Wright took on in a 2025 article for the Wall Street Journal.
One explanation often cited by media and activists, rests on a comparison to left-handedness. It claims that transgenderism isn’t rising, it’s just becoming more visible, the same way left-handed rates climbed once schools stopped forcing kids to switch hands.
The article explains that innate traits should rise once accepted, then plateau, not spike and crash.
However, the data increasingly suggests a crash. Campus survey analysis found trans identification among college students fell 50% between 2023 and 2025, and separate national survey data shows an almost identical decline among 18-22 year-olds over the same window. 📉
Wright argues that even supposed “increases” don’t actually support their claim. Any growth is overwhelmingly in "nonbinary" labels like "genderfluid" and "demiboy.”
These identities have no physical, measurable marker at all. Left-handedness is anatomical. This isn't. 🚫
As Wright puts it:
"The surge in transgender identification in recent years wasn't the revelation of a hidden biological truth. It was a social phenomenon shaped by imitation, ideology and institutional reinforcement."
Today, Do No Harm sent letters to 10 of the nation's leading medical societies including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the Endocrine Society, calling on them to formally reject genital surgeries performed on minors as part of so-called "gender-affirming care." ✉️
The letter, signed by Dr. Stanley Goldfarb and Dr. Kurt Miceli, argues that adolescents aren't equipped to give informed consent for irreversible procedures, and points out that nearly two dozen systematic reviews have failed to show a medical benefit from these interventions.
"Professional medical societies that endorse so-called gender-affirming care in minors bear tremendous responsibility for the harm done to American children," said Dr. Miceli.
