Your Spare Change Can Fill Empty Plates in Gaza
Raghad Al-Najjar is an 18-year-old high school senior living with her parents and five younger siblings in a heavily damaged apartment in eastern Salah Al-Din, Gaza. The familyโs home has sustained multiple artillery strikes, leaving it in serious disrepair, yet they have returned after being displaced five or six times, and now all eight family members share a single bedroom for sleeping. Raghadโs father, who worked as a house painter earning enough to meet their basic needs before the genocide, has had no employment since October 2023, leaving the family without income and fully reliant on a donation campaign. Raghad has consistently ranked among the top students in her grade (2007 class), while her younger sister, one year behind (2008 class), is also committed to her studies. With final exams approaching, both girls face serious obstacles to continuing their education, as the family cannot currently afford tuition fees, school supplies, or other essential costs. Accumulated debts from the recent period of severe food shortages, combined with expenses from repeated displacements, have added to their financial strain. The ongoing donation effort aims to clear these debts, cover the sistersโ school-related expenses, provide food and basic necessities, and give the family some stability so Raghad and her sister can focus on their studies and future aspirations.
