@nypost He had to leave a government job in order to run for office (ethics rules don’t allow govt employees to run) and he doesn’t take office until January. He hasn’t worked for months. He has no income until January. He wasn’t doing anything unethical by asking for help.

On August 1, 1833 Britain abolished slavery in its colonies, kind of. The enslaved had to work as unpaid "apprentices" for five more years. The slave holders were compensated so much money that it wasn't paid off until 2015.
