@NicoleGorton suggests Europe is already paying a price in lost market share - at home and abroad. She estimates that price at about 0.7% of EU GDP last year, up from 0.5% in 2024. That’s likely to worsen in the years ahead as China becomes increasingly dominant in the sectors Europe also trades in.
Nicole’s measure of export similarity between the EU and China sat around 45% when China joined the WTO in 2001. By 2025 it had risen to 58%.
