It is nearly 2am and the only reason I just finished all of my urgent work is Codex Voice Mode. Good god. How is everyone not freaking out about this? I feel like the way I'm working looks completely different than a month ago. Basic examples: "Hey take a look at this paragraph - what do you think?" "What else is on my list?" "I'm going to edit this while you find that doc" "Download my latest IG reel, make a good thumbnail for it - I'm gonna go fill up my water, holler if you need me" "Just sent the 15 client emails - check against the list while I start on the script" "Wait! Ah! I forgot I need to paint my nails - find me time" (books a 30min slot that is before filming tomorrow but with enough time to dry my nails) "check slack, email, our fireflies sweeps, i'm not missing anything?" (catches LP capital call that was buried in a folder) But it's less about use case and more about the ambient interaction. It probably sounds like a negligible difference to speak to an ambient assistant versus click to speak, but it is a world of difference in practice. Hypertasking feels voice-enabled. Voice AI (plus visuals on-demand) really is the interface of the future. Only annoying thing: when I want to dictate to type something in (ex: a slack message to my team), it hears that, which requires I mute my side, then dictate, then unmute.

This has to be AGI. Just tried this new voice model & it was the most elegant, fast & productive coding session I have ever had. It genuninely felt like talking to Tony Stark's Jarvis. Voice just makes so much sense and @OpenAI has just unlocked a new level of productivity here.

ChatGPT voice feels like an architectural and user interface breakthrough for harnesses .. I didn't expect to be this floored by it. The biggest unlock is that it's cross conversation so you can fluidly move across projects. For anyone using coding agents in even a mildly ambitious way, you get overwhelmed by the number of agents and /recap is insufficient for putting all the context back in your head. So it's a big productivity improvement. Perhaps the bigger deal is that it feels like the first aha moment of a true ambient consumer assistant. I think that the abstraction away from model selectors, git worktrees etc will free consumers to just literally ask for what they want and have it magically appear. In retrospect this may be an important moment in both harness architecture and consumer interfaces to allow the technology to diffuse much more broadly.

This has easily been the biggest step change in my workflow since Codex Theres just something about voice that not only makes me more efficient, but just feels so much better than sitting at my desk all day. ChatGPT Voice on desktop is my favorite feature this year. I can talk while Codex works, get updates, and ask it to look at the active app. It feels like Jarvis. → `Wait until I ask you to respond.` → `Look at this window.` If it can’t, check macOS screen permissions → Split into parallel tasks. Ask what’s done and what’s blocked. Interrupt if it drifts → Type code, commands, and paths

Now that I’ve used the new ChatGPT Voice (arguable AGI experience) in the desktop app, I can understand why so many of the components released over the last few months were needed to get here. Computer use had to become much faster. Codex had to be able to create, monitor and intervene in other threads. Voice had to become natural enough to have a proper conversation. Bring all of that together and it’s magical, a real assistant, rather than just a chatbot with voice.
