MoonPay went from being known as the “buy crypto with your credit card” company to having one of the most stacked product lineups in all of crypto. they now offer 20+ products across: > on/off ramps > virtual bank accounts > fiat + crypto deposits > global payouts > stablecoin issuance > wallets > MPC/key management > swaps > crypto checkouts > treasury management > institutional trading > reconciliation + accounting > AI agent wallets > agentic payments a lot of this expansion has come from them going on a shopping spree and acquiring a dozen companies over the last year. what @MoonPay gets especially right is that despite becoming a much bigger infrastructure company they’ve never lost the consumer brand that made them relevant in the first place (due to their cracked social team) A tier execution all around. has been beautiful to watch.

A few notes on the launch of PayBox. The first real crypto ux breakthrough was browser extensions. They were not perfect initially (odd ux until recently with side panels) but they brought signing to the dominant runtime: web browsers. Dominant as in it’s where most user activity was done. Second was mobile but app switching between browser and signer didn’t always work well and we had to put a browser (the dominant runtime) inside the signing app / wallet. The UX improved to a point that most day to day retail signing today happens on mobile. The third one I think will be the PayBox model (that we just shipped at @moonpay): embed signing into the emerging dominant runtime: LLM chats. It’s simpler UI with the familiar chat interface driven by user intents and guardrails. This is not the final form but possibly the beginning of a new shift in signing ux because there is a new dominant runtime.

PayBox is non-custodial wallet embedded directly within Claude. Historically, this has been difficult because there has been no way to prevent some centralized party - claude, paybox, etc. - from accessing the key. We utilize an embedded iframe directly within the Claude/ChatGPT mobile app to hold an agent session key, that unlocks that same wallet that you can access with your passkey, or via other agents, an architecture created by Sodot, @moonpay cryptography company. The big unlock with PayBox is mobile. You can directly access a wallet on claude/chat. There is no need for terminals, code, or CLIs. Anyone, technical or non-technical, on the move or at home, can access and interact with all the applications you can perform on Claude. Most of the world is already on a chat mobile app, and PayBox makes DeFI directly accessible to this user-base. You can trade directly from your phone on the move, with voice or text. Claude already performs reasoning across a large array of tools - google, linear, notion are the typical examples. A non-custodial wallet allows users to execute across all of DeFi. The on-chain capabilities enabled by PayBox include - prediction markets - amms - tokenized equities - perps - lending The non-defi examples enabled by x402 are cool as well - purchase from amazon - book a reservation or a flight - call any open-source model of your choice - web scraping (and many many more) This was a massive project involving a number of firsts - the first fully non-custodial wallet directly within Claude/ChatGPT - an open way to access ANY application built on-chain directly from mobile and of course - PayBox never has access to your chat history - PayBox never has access to your wallet private key - PayBox never allows unilateral access to funds unless you approve agent to have autonomous control Just like any other MCP connector on Claude or ChatGPT, the only data that passes through the connector are the tool call arguments.
