I will say that the React Native community is one of the best, most welcoming, kindest, most supportive communities around.
I have regular chats with all those folks. Expo, Callstack, Software Mansion, Marc, even Shopify, Microsoft, Amazon, all of them. Friends, all of them.
Something to celebrate. But I think there’s change arriving, I know this. It’s a little sad.
Important context:
1. The Shop app was not yet migrated to React Native's new architecture
2. The new architecture was initiated, in large part, by Meta's need to improve startup time
So, the one thing that was almost certain to improve startup time hadn't happened yet.
I don’t understand why some people are so triggered by Theo’s takes.
You know what you can do if you see something you disagree with on 𝕏?
Near the bottom of the screen, put your finger there. Touch lightly, and drag your finger up.
The tweet will scroll up and away.
It’s magical. Try it next time.
This isn’t life and death. Someone having a different opinion about software dev is not an excuse to be angry or rude or throw insults or cast aspersions on their motives.
I’ve known Theo for years. He’s often right and can explain software dev concepts extremely well, with passion that’s entertaining. Sometimes he’s wrong. So is everyone, including me, and including you.
I know it probably bothers some people that he has a big audience and “might lead people astray” … trust me, it’s not that serious.
We are all navigating this at the same time. It’s a bumpy time, some excitement, some apprehension. Give each other some grace.
