Make time for this. The article is as absorbing, and striking, as everyone says. See what you think. You don't even have to tell anyone what you think. The article involves the messiness of life and the politics of our times. It tells us something about patriotism and something about individuality (again, that messiness of life). Reading about Mike Pence -- whose decency and honor does not surprise me -- I thought of George W. Bush, another man of decency and honor. In 2003, Bush hosted his 35th college reunion at the White House. A trans person came up to him and said, "You might remember me as Peter when we left Yale." Extending his hand, Bush said, "Now you've come back as yourself." It ain't all Ozzie and Harriet, you know. Never has been, since caveman days. Anyway, great thanks to Julia Curlee.
