25 years ago today, it was the first day of preschool for many young New Yorkers. My friend's father, a successful businessman, had a meeting in the World Trade Center that morning.
He skipped it to take my friend to school and eluded death that day. Other brave, unlucky New Yorkers did not.
There are so many stories like this one. I am too young to remember, but it rippled through my childhood. The thought of that day can still bring me to tears.
