I mean, tbf, Tom and Jerry would have had a short run if it was just Tom putting Jerry in a sock and slamming the little fucker against a table for five minutes.
The cartoons from this era demonstrated the growing slave morality in mass culture as you had an inversion of noble beast hierarchy “getting one over” on their natural superiors, eg mice defeats, humiliates cat, cat defeats dog, and so on.
