Ascend Properties manages a portfolio of luxury rentals in Big Sky, Montana, one of the country’s top ski destinations. Weak December snowfall doesn’t just hurt the holidays. It drags down bookings for the rest of the season. So rather than hope for powder, Adam Farr, who runs Ascend, hedged the risk on Kalshi. He took a $2,000 position on Big Sky getting below-average snowfall in December. If the snow comes, bookings run as normal and Ascend serves the ski crowd like any other season. If it doesn’t, the Kalshi position pays out, helping offset lost bookings while Ascend waits for winter to show up. Either way, Adam’s business is protected.

Georgia vs Alabama is the biggest weekend of the year in Tuscaloosa. One of college football's best rivalries, local businesses have had it circled all season. However, as Hurricane Isaias grows stronger, there are fears that the matchup will be canceled or rescheduled. Not only would this devastate sports fans, but local businesses would miss out on one of their biggest revenue weekends of the year. Chris Nelson of Alabama Vintage saw the storm coming and hedged the risk of a game delay or cancellation on Kalshi. If the game goes on as scheduled, it's a packed weekend in Tuscaloosa. If Isaias delays or cancels it: the hedge pays out to help offset the lost revenue.

Meet the Gall family, founders of Sleepy Bay Salmon. They fish Prince William Sound and the Copper River flats for King, Sockeye, and Coho, with family roots in the Chenega Tribe going back thousands of years. They deliver wild Alaskan salmon straight to customers around the world. Diesel is one of the biggest costs of the season and one of the hardest to predict. Right now, diesel prices in Alaska are at an all-time high. When fuel prices rise, profits shrink, and until now there hasn't been much a small operation could do about it. So Sleepy Bay Salmon is using Kalshi to hedge Alaska diesel prices. If diesel prices climb, their trade pays out and helps offset the higher cost of fueling the boat. If prices come in lower, they lose on the trade but pay less at the pump. Order direct:
