NEW from us: India's rapid clean power expansion has kept power sector emissions flat for two years, for the first time in over 50 years, and sharply reduced fossil fuel imports. Oil and gas consumption have also fallen for two years in a row, helping alleviate the Hormuz shock.

China also recently surpassed the world average for the share of clean energy out of total energy. The mental model that most people seem to still have of China's energy system as exceptionally dirty doesn't hold anymore, but obviously the absolute CO2 emissions are still huge.
