Doctor: "I'm sorry... but your wife didn't survive the accident."
Husband: "You're lying."
Doctor: "I wish I was."
Husband: "I was talking to her ten minutes ago."
Doctor: "She was unconscious when the ambulance brought her in."
Husband: "Then who called me?"
The doctor frowned.
Doctor: "What do you mean?"
Husband: "Someone used her phone."
Nurse: "Sir... your wife's phone was crushed in the crash."
The husband's face turned pale.
Husband: "Then explain why she just texted me..."
He handed the phone to the doctor.
The message read:
"I'm still inside the car. Don't let them close it."
My husband always accused me of flirting with men at police checkpoints. One night, he learned why the officers actually knew my name.
Every time we drove together and a police officer greeted me, my husband would become suspicious.
"You smiled too much."
"Why did he call you by your name?"
"How many of them do you know?"
At first, I laughed it off.
The taxi driver refused to end the trip.
"It's not safe for you to get out here," he said.
Aisha looked at the map on her phone.
"This is my address."
"I know."
"Then why are we still sitting here?"
The driver locked the doors and glanced in the rearview mirror.
"Because the man standing across the street has been waiting since we turned the corner."
Aisha slowly looked out of the window.
I arrived at my hotel just before midnight.
The receptionist checked my ID, typed for a few seconds, then looked at me with a confused expression.
"Sir... didn't you check in this afternoon?"
I laughed.
"I just got here."
She turned the monitor toward another staff member, who immediately frowned.
"That's impossible."
The cashier looked at me strangely after I paid for my groceries. Then she quietly asked, "Do you still use the same phone number?
I frowned.
"Yes... why?
Instead of answering, she reached under the counter, pulled out a sealed envelope, and slid it across to me.
"A man told me to give you this the next time you came in."
I stared at her.
"When was that?"
She looked down at the receipt book.
"Six years ago."
The old man walked into the bank carrying a plastic bag.
He waited until everyone else had been served.
Then he placed the bag on the counter and asked,
Can you tell me who owns this account?
The teller looked confused.
Inside the bag...
Were hundreds of old deposit slips.
