I find it endearing that women wear the hijab for religious reasons; it shows modesty and piety. It is a head covering worn to protect against the cold, leaving only the eyes exposed whilst covering the head and other parts of the body. Around 1750, it became fashionable amongst young women after the Kabuki onnagata actor Nakamura Tomijirō wore one, so there is nothing out of place with it in the historical context of kimono culture.
