🇯🇵 International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane of Japan warned on Friday against "the demise of international rule of law" after she was hit by US sanctions.
"The sanction against me this time was something I had anticipated to an extent, so I'm not surprised," Akane said in a statement released on X by her publisher Bungei Shunju.

The US government sanctioned two additional International Criminal Court officials this week under an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in February 2025.
ICC member countries should strongly condemn this misuse of sanctions and act to ensure that the court can continue its critical work on behalf of survivors of the world’s worst crimes, whether in Afghanistan, Palestine, Sudan, or Ukraine.
