100% and @jasminewsun had a great point about this-- the value of building a new datacenter is so amorphous and intangible compared to building something "real"/"physical" like an automotive factory in a town to the avg american all the $ is flowing in the wrong direction and its nonsensical that they are stuck in the same material conditions, when immaterial conditions (ie. a new model release) are improving-- and all of this is downstream from unease around healthcare, housing, and education i think meta's Future Is for Everyone Fund is a good start but we need firmer commitments to construction workers, social workers, teachers, nurses etc. you can imagine eventually every datacenter buildout deal having a public Community Benefits Agreement where they specify things like local hire percentages/wage floors, as opposed to the prevailing method today which is negotiating the datacenter deal under an NDA and then the whole town finds out when its too late
