Much of what the world needs to know about where AI is heading, and what governing the transition to AGI will take, is inside frontier labs. Our new DeepMind Institute is how we will share more of it. I'm so glad to be supporting it.

I’m very priviledged to be a part of this effort.

Some news: This week I am starting at @GoogleDeepMind as Director of AGI Economics on @shanelegg’s team. I will be joining the other amazing cross-disciplinary scientists researching AGI there. My team will study how frontier AI could reshape the economy: what happens to work and labor, how wealth and power are distributed, how institutions adapt, how AI agents shape markets, and what kinds of models can help us reason clearly about futures that may look very different from the past. I’m incredibly excited to help build this research agenda. If AGI changes how society operates, economics is going to be critical for shaping our shared future. Many more announcements soon.

My team (Frontier Strategy & Governance) at Google DeepMind is hiring. We are bringing on researchers to lead our strategic analysis on frontier AI. Our mission is to provide rigorous foresight and actionable insights to help the world prepare for advanced AI. We focus on concrete, longer-horizon challenges that fall outside the ordinary course of business: forecasting technical breakthroughs, anticipating geopolitical dynamics, contributing to the development of international safety standards, and planning scientific moonshots. We also publish external research and convene experts. Recent public work covers lessons from historical technological revolutions, forecasting frameworks for frontier AI, Cooperative AI, and the limits of model-level governance. This builds on our team's track record of co-creating the Frontier Model Forum, the Frontier Safety Framework, and the AGI Safety Council. Wonderful trip to Japan with @ShaneLegg & @shanegJP. It's really refreshing to experience such a different and open cultural/philosophical attitude towards AGI. Less reactive alarmism, more openness to positive futures, a more adaptive regulatory environment, and a good dose of realism given the demographic crisis. Will definitely be back! 🗻
