Something happened in my street that still makes me laugh whenever I remember it. 😂 Mr Bode had been having an extra-marital affair. One evening, he told his friend, Daddy Emma, everything. Who the woman was. Where they met. How serious things were getting. The whole gist. Unfortunately for him, Emma was nearby washing his school uniform. And Emma heard everything. He didn’t say a word. He just kept washing like a responsible child. 😂 But Emma had one weakness. He had a serious crush on Bisi, the girl who sold snacks at the junction. She was basically our street’s town crier. 😂 Before you could say “Mr Bode,” the information had already travelled. Bisi told Iya Salaye. Iya Salaye told Mrs Bode. And somehow, everybody on the street knew before Mr Bode even got home. That evening, Mr Bode came back from work. Some of us neighbors were outside pretending to mind our business. 😂 But nobody was actually minding their business. We were all waiting. Mr Bode walked through the gate. The street suddenly became suspiciously quiet. He greeted everyone. “Good evening.” “Good evening, sir.” But the way everyone answered, you could tell we were all carrying the same secret. 😂 He entered his house. A few minutes later, we heard his wife: “Bode!” Silence. Then: “So who is she?” At that point, some of us outside had to look away because we were already eavesdropping. 😂😂 Mr Bode tried to explain. But the funny thing was… His wife already knew everything. Who she was. Where they met. How long it had been going on. Everything. Mr Bode finally asked: “Who told you?” His wife simply said: “Don’t worry about who told me.” Meanwhile, outside… Iya Salaye was probably already telling somebody else the same story for the third time. 😂 That woman was a town crier with no bell. Once information entered her ear… the whole world was already on the mailing list. 😂😂 And that’s how Mr Bode’s secret became the biggest gist on our street.
