Open source only works when there is real pricing for closed source alternatives. Stolen weights means mispriced anthropic property. It hurts anthropic and it hurts any efforts to openly train a fully open alternative. Pirated copies of windows hurt Linux adoption.

If you want real open weights to succeed, then you need to defend against stolen weights. Let Anthropic kyc everyone, so then there is much more value in contributing to a truly open trained open weight model.
If Unix and windows were free as in beer but not free as in speech, there would be no Linux, and pirates windows hurt Linux adoption.
