I am often travelling between Berlin and San Francisco. There are a few differences between the founders in Germany and in San Francisco. Homies from Berlin usually stick to their own social group, leverage it, and try to plan ahead and are banking on enterprise contracts and some vertical approach. It is often about social status as much as about the product. Once they hit some revenue, they stop innovating and scale the motion. They produce good outputs, and focus on quality. Homies from SF are often suffering from something that looks like dissociative disorder from afar, but have methodology to validate/invalidate ideas and are efficient, fast and don’t take no for an answer. They generate revenue for the business, and focus on speed. They will tell you how they are changing the world, but you’ll get a Sales Agent and a postcard.
