FAA TO LAUNCH $875M AI-POWERED AIR TRAFFIC SYSTEM AS SOON AS MONDAY The FAA is preparing to roll out SMART, new software designed to reduce flight delays and cancellations by predicting traffic problems earlier and helping find alternative routes when disruptions hit. The system analyzes airline schedules, weather, runway capacity and other constraints to forecast congestion before flights depart. It will launch first around Washington, D.C., before expanding nationwide. Air Space Intelligence won a $875M, 12-year contract to build SMART and the broader system supporting it. The FAA says controllers will remain responsible for aircraft separation, while SMART acts as a planning layer to improve routing, timing and recovery from weather or congestion events.
