Training and teamwork matter when every minute counts. CAL FIRE/San Mateo County Fire responded to a remote rescue at Sam McDonald Park after a hiker fell from a trail and needed medical assistance. The response brought together ground crews, CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit Alma Helitack, Stanford Life Flight and local mutual aid partners. Crews established a landing zone, reached the patient on foot and coordinated a successful air transport. Remote rescues like this require agencies to train, communicate and operate together before an emergency ever happens. California’s mutual aid system helps bring the right resources together when and where they are needed. Assisting agencies included CAL FIRE/San Mateo County Fire, La Honda Fire Brigade, Loma Mar Volunteer Fire, AMR, San Mateo County Parks and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. #CALFIRE# #MutualAid#

At work in Washington. Wildfires can require more people, equipment, and expertise than one agency can provide. That's where cooperation and mutual aid come in. CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 5 continues to help manage the response to the Sinlahekin Fire. Meanwhile, on the Little Giant Fire, Washington National Guard crews are being led by a CAL FIRE Fire Captain acting as a crew boss. Together they're working to strengthen the fire's edge and secure the fire line. 🚒 CAL FIRE continues to aid in firefighting efforts beyond California. Through our State-to-State Mutual Aid Agreement, CAL FIRE has deployed more than 100 ground personnel to Nevada to support firefighting efforts on the Hawk Fire. 🔥 Additionally, CAL FIRE provided four night-vision helicopters, which have delivered more than 200,000 gallons of water throughout the incident. CAL FIRE’s McClellan Airtanker Reload Base also served as a refueling station for several large and very large airtankers supporting firefighting operations. As of this morning, the Hawk fire has burned approximately 15,000 acres and remains 0% contained. IMT 5 IS ACTIVATED. Today, CAL FIRE Incident Management Team (IMT) 5 will transition into Washington, replacing IMT 4, which has been supporting wildfire response efforts on the Sinlahekin Fire. Our strike teams are officially back from Colorado.   After several days supporting wildfire response through mutual aid, our personnel have safely returned to California. During their deployment, they worked on the Aspen Acres Fire and assisted on other incidents as conditions evolved, providing critical firefighting support wherever they were needed most.   Thank you to our partners in Colorado for their collaboration and coordination throughout this deployment. Coordination, response, and mutual aid are the foundation of California's emergency management system, ensuring help reaches communities when it's needed most. During National Emergency Management Awareness Month, Cal OES recognizes the strong partnerships and shared commitment that make unified statewide emergency management possible.

Since June 1, California has deployed 3,372 personnel and 258 pieces of equipment to support emergency response in 12 states and two countries. Many of those resources come from local government fire agencies mobilized by Cal OES through the California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System. More than 200 local fire agencies provided support, deploying a combined 2,921 firefighters and 172 fire engines and specialized equipment. Thank you to the firefighters, emergency managers, and support personnel who have answered the call to support our neighbors across the nation and the globe. Learn more:
