Their commitment fuels collaboration, accelerates progress, and helps turn OCP’s mission into reality. Today, we’re honored to celebrate one of these exceptional community leaders. Priya Chhiba - Google What is your role in the OCP Community? Priya is a recognized industry leader and recipient of the 2023 OCP Volunteer Leadership Award. Within the OCP Data Center Facilities (DCF) community, she proposed, launched, and currently co-leads the DCF Sustainability sub-working group. She has spearheaded high-impact cross-hyperscaler collaborations with Microsoft, and AWS, including the Green Concrete initiative to accelerate a targeted 30% carbon reduction in the embodied carbon of concrete used for data center construction. Furthermore, Priya has driven critical industry standardizations, co-authoring the OCP Clean Backup Power Requirements and is currently driving the cross-company development of the AI/ML Grid Interface Specification to manage high-density workload fluctuations across the utility grid. How long have you been involved with OCP? Since launching the DCF Sustainability workstream in October 2022, Priya has served as an active contributor and volunteer leader within the OCP Community. She has championed and co-led key sustainability initiatives that define industry best practices, which includes presenting next-generation backup power solutions and DCF project updates at multiple OCP Global and EMEA Summit. In addition to facilitating monthly DCF Sustainability calls focused on critical issues like data center water footprint and carbon free energy, Priya fosters vital ecosystem collaborations by aligning partner organizations such as the Net Zero Innovation Hub. Why do you volunteer your time to OCP? Driven by a desire to unite organizations, Priya focuses on solving environmental and infrastructure hurdles. She views OCP as a vital cooperative platform where groundbreaking concepts are transformed into functional solutions that support the entire ecosystem. An incredibly fulfilling aspect of her recent efforts with the Open Compute Project was witnessing the impact of dismantling traditional barriers to scale sustainable concrete. By leading a sustainability workstream, she brings industry peers— Microsoft, Meta, Google and AWS—to the same table. Their joint advocacy for the 'Green Concrete' project targets a 30% decrease in the embodied carbon of concrete used in data center builds. Something people may not know about you? Priya's career in infrastructure innovation began as a hands-on mechanical engineer within a South African coal power plant. She later transitioned to guiding multi-disciplinary engineering teams, developing intricate design and licensing frameworks for operational nuclear power facilities across the United States. Today, she spearheads incubation and market intelligence for Google's data centers, leveraging her extensive foundation in heavy power generation. Driven by a deep commitment to clean energy, Priya focuses on integrating advanced energy generation concepts, next-generation battery storage, and global digital infrastructure to cultivate more sustainable data center infrastructure. “True innovation happens when we break down silos and build together. Open source allows us to collaborate across the entire industry, turning shared challenges into powerful, collective impact.”

John values OCP’s close connection to end users and customers. What impact has OCP had on you professionally? OCP has provided visibility across technologies far beyond his core specialty, including liquid cooling, AI infrastructure, and emerging data center innovations. Just as importantly, it has connected him with an incredible network of industry peers. What are you most excited about right now? John is looking forward to his eight-week sabbatical, his fourth during his career, and the opportunity to reflect, learn, and explore. Something people may not know about you?
