AUSTRALIA DATA-CENTER POWER DEMAND SEEN JUMPING 7X Australia expects data-center electricity use to rise to 34 TWh by 2035-36, lifting its share of national power demand to 13% from just 3% today. The boom could drive as much as A$150B in data-center investment by 2030, but comes as 13 GW of coal and nearly 2 GW of gas generation are scheduled to retire over the next decade. AEMO warns data-center demand can come online much faster than new power infrastructure, increasing the risk of grid bottlenecks and higher electricity costs.

$FLEX officially named its upcoming Cloud and Power Infrastructure spin-off Axiom Solutions International, ticker $AXM. The separation is still targeted for Q1 2027. I have written about Flex before and I think this is the part of the company that deserves a much closer look. Power, cooling and compute infrastructure under one roof, now with EPC Power added before the separation. Interesting board choices too. Lumentum CEO Michael Hurlston joins alongside two former Eaton executives with deep electrical infrastructure experience. November 10 should be interesting. Flex will give us a much better look at what they are actually building here.

ELON MUSK: AI could face a major power shortage as soon as 2027. Musk says the consensus among analysts closely following AI is that there could be at least a 15 GW power shortfall for AI data centers in 2027. The reason? AI deployment is growing at roughly 40–50% per year, while available power outside China is increasing by only around 10–20%. AI is scaling faster than the world’s power infrastructure. The next AI bottleneck could be electricity.

We don't have enough power. AI chip-driven electricity demand is projected to surge to a record ~315 gigawatts globally by 2033. That would represent an increase of more than +1,100% since 2025. The US is expected to account for ~64% of this new AI electricity demand, or ~200 GW. Meanwhile, AI data centers are also putting huge strain on power infrastructure. During model training, hundreds of thousands of GPUs can power up and down simultaneously, causing electricity usage to spike as much as 50% above design capacity. These sharp power swings can accelerate wear on batteries, generators, cooling systems, and other critical infrastructure, increasing maintenance and replacement costs. We need new energy infrastructure.

$GNRC SIGNS UP TO $8B $AMZN DATA CENTER POWER DEAL Generac has entered into a long-term agreement to supply backup power generators for Amazon data centers, with aggregate payments under the deal potentially reaching $8 billion. Initial generator deliveries are expected to total about $2.4 billion across 2027 and 2028. As part of the agreement, Amazon received warrants to purchase up to 1.69 million Generac shares at $200.93 each. About 308,000 shares vested immediately, while the rest will vest in stages as Amazon’s payments to Generac increase toward the $8B threshold. The warrants can be exercised through September 2033. The deal gives Generac a major long-term customer as hyperscalers continue expanding data center capacity and the power infrastructure needed to support it.
