Increasing defence cooperation. Boosting our climate security. We're getting things done with partners from around the world to deliver for Australians back home.

Australia led the world with our social media ban for under-16s.  And the world is following. Alongside @EmmanuelMacron and @sanchezcastejon we’re now building a Coalition for Children’s Rights and Protection in the Age of AI. Because protecting children from harm doesn't stop at borders. It's a global responsibility, and Australia is leading the way.

Australia has never stood on the sidelines. We’ve always played our part in building a safer and more peaceful world. Today we’re launching our campaign for a seat on the UN Security Council for 2029–30. We will listen with respect. We will partner as equals. And we will protect what matters most.

We all have a responsibility to make the online world safer for our kids. It’s a belief @tim_cook and I share. Today at Apple HQ, we spoke about what we’re doing to protect children from online harm and the work ahead.

With the passing of Blanche d’Alpuget overnight, Australia has lost a true one-off. As a writer, she was at home in fiction as she was in non-fiction, working in each realm with a keen eye for every telling detail that opened up the humanity of her subject to her readers. Blanche’s novels were compelling works of verve and originality, and her biographies comprehensive and definitive – most famously those she wrote of Bob Hawke, who became her great love and ultimately her husband. It is so fitting that Blanche’s final message to us all is this: “Our highest calling and greatest achievement is love, the rule of life. Love one another.” Our hearts right now with her family and all who loved her. May Blanche d’Alpuget rest in peace.

Melbourne to Coffs Harbour without hitting a single traffic light or roundabout. That’s now possible with the new M1 extension to Raymond Terrace opening this Friday. It means less time stuck in traffic, safer local roads and a faster trip through the Hunter. And it’s created thousands of jobs along the way, with 70% of the workforce coming from right here in the Hunter.
